Access at a Glance
Accessible Campsites
The campground map lists six accessible paved sites without hookups: 4, 26, 58, 92, 143 and 164. California State Parks says the site surfaces are fully or partly paved, the water spigots have accessible controls, and the paved pads may leave limited room for a tent.
To reserve one:
- You need a valid DMV Disabled Placard or Disabled License Plate with its matching DMV ID card, or a Disabled Veteran license plate with its ID card.
- Ask for an accessible site when you book on ReserveCalifornia (1-800-444-7275).
- A placard alone does not lower the fee. For a discount, get the state's Disabled Discount Pass or Distinguished Veteran Pass; the pass holder must be the first camper to check in.
Restrooms and Showers
All restroom and shower buildings have accessible facilities. In the combination restroom-shower buildings, the toilets are accessible, but California State Parks notes the showers may require assistance to reach the controls and the coin box. ADA parking at the restroom and shower buildings is for restroom and shower use only.
Getting Onto the Sand
- Beach wheelchair: free, one available, first come, first served. Check it out with a photo ID at the San Elijo campground entrance kiosk; staff will have you sign a release and give you the code to the storage cabinet at the Cardiff Reef day-use lot.
- Mobi Mat: in summer a Mobi Mat is laid at Lifeguard Tower 15 at Cardiff State Beach, giving a firm path to the high-tide line. See Cardiff State Beach.
- From the campground, the beach is reached by stairs down the bluff.
